The tiny woman glared at the retreating back of the barkeeper.
"Meh. Watch where you go," she said under her breath. She had half a mind to send him a shock, but refrained. It wasn't his fault he didn't see her right away.
She leaped onto the stool, and climbed onto the bar, sitting cross-legged.
The little woman was probably knee high to a normal human, and very slender. Her dark, nut brown skin nearly blended in with her dark brown leather tunic. Her black hair was braided in multiples across her head, and feathers dangled from the tips.
Her eyes were so dark, they looked black, and if one looked close enough, one would swear they were souless.
The barkeeper noticed the little woman, and went to her.
Bout time, the woman hrmph'd to herself.
"What can I be getting you, missy?" he asked. His mouth was turned in a genuine smile.
"Just water, please." The barkeeper nodded, and turned his back to her.
Down from her, two men sat, and whispered among themselves, peering in her direction.
"Whatcha be drinkin' little lady?" one asked, as he sidled up to her. His breath reeked of old food, rotten teeth, and whatever drink he had consumed.
"Just water," she answered tersely.
"Here. Let me pay for dat. Barkeep, put it in that." as he pointed about the barkeepers head. The men laughed, and the barkeeper looked at her with sympathy and his eyes apologized. She nodded it was alright.
Dedenda got this all the time. Just because she was small, didn't mean she was helpess. Or fragile.
"Here you go," the barkeeper said, and thunked down a large stein of water. Dedenda scowled. That was enough. The stein was perfect for a human to lift, but it was nearly half her size. Definately too heavy for her to lift, but she had other ways.
She pulled out a straw, and placed it in the water. The smiles faded from the two men's faces, their laughter dying, as they obviously didn't get to her. She winked at them, and they turned their backs to her.
Across the room, Dedenda had caught the attention of a pair of eyes, and they seemed amused.
Feeling devillish, Dedenda sucked water through her straw, and held it, aimed, and sprayed one of the rude men's back.
He howled, as the water splashed on the back of his neck, and trickled down his back. He whirled around, glaring at the little woman. She stood her ground.
"Now. If you don't mind, I will have that water in a proper sized glass." she challenged, as her tiny fist began to glow. The ruffian wiped the water off his neck, and advanced towards her. She mumbled, and sent a bolt of lightning, aiming it at his feet. The man stopped, and looked at her through surprised, alcohol glazed eyes. She smiled sweetly, and thanked the barkeeper when he got the right sized glass for her.
"C'mon, let's get out of here," the drunk said as he grabbed his buddy's arm. When he turned around, she released a small ball of energy, and aimed it at his ample backside. He howled, as the jolt caused him to jump.
When he turned, the tiny woman was gone.
Damn Urisigs, he cursed to himself, as he rubbed the singed spot.
Dedenda chuckled, as she had now retreated towards the back, and found a niche in the wall, as she pulled out a small piece of dried meat.
That, was so worth it.
As she sat, the barkeeper came to her.
"That was a very risky thing you did there, Little one." Dedenda waved it aside.
"Just because I am small doesn't mean I can't take care of myself."
The barkeeper couldn't agree more. She may be small, but he wondered if the Lady could use her.
"Come with me, Little one. I want you to meet someone."
Intrigued, she followed. When they got to the table, the barkeeper gently lift her up, and sat her upon the table.
Dedenda stared at the woman, and her companion.
The woman raised an eyebrow at the barkeeper.
Are you serious? her eyes seemed to say.
His eyes rolled, indicating the prior scene. The woman understood. It was comical, and the little Urisig defiantely held her own.
She nodded once.
"Ok, so the barkeeper brought me here. May I ask, why?" Dedenda asked, her curiosity high. |
