Escape to Norrath Problem

Okay, with the new 2-months free offer, I've decided to download the Escape to Norrath trial to my laptop. Well, it downloaded fine and everything, except that when I open the launchpad. It updates and everything very quickly (it just being the tutorial), but when it's done, instead of the UPDATING changing to PLAY, it just stays at UPDATING. Even the little thing underneath the button says 'Update Complete'. Yet, right there, in front of my eyes, the button still says UPDATING, much to my grief. Anyone got any ideas on what is to be done?

I'm using Vista, if that's of any importance

Vista is Evil and must be destroyed! I hate Vista with a passion, mainly because of all the annoying crap it does and its incompatability with hardware/software. Try loading it on an XP machine and see if the same thing happens. If it doesn't, then all the blame goes to Vista.

I was reading complaints about this issue on the EQ boards yesterday. There's a workaround via patching/downloading using the Beta Launcher instead of the EQ Launchpad. Devs etc know there's an issue, and were working on it (last I read).

downloading right now as I type, thanks Vex

As for you, Hidden, everyone said the same exact thing about XP when it came out. Give it a decade, and everyone'll bitch about the new Windows L33t when it comes out, saying how everything is for Vista. Wink

I have Vista on a machine at the moment. Needless to say I've had numerous issues with it, hence my review of it above. I never had anything remotely close to the issues I have with Vista and hardware/software with XP. So much for the "Backwards Compatibility" Microsoft loves to talk about.

I'll give it this, with Service Pack 1 it is quite stable. But then again, the majority of the software I use quite frequently either will not install or will not run. Some of it was able to be installed and ran after putting in Service Pack 1, but others I am screwed on unless I want to pay about $700 for the newest versions of software and some hardware.

Hmm, I guess I'm super fortunate then, I rarely have any problems with Vista. Only thing I don't like about it is that it wants to send everything to my desktop, lol

Ok, eventhough it looks like you've got your problem fixed, I'm going to throw this link out there for anyone who's been having problems with EQ2 on a Vista machine.

Vista is evil. Here is why:

Bill Gates got greedy and demanded 3rd parties pay outragous fees for access to source code to write drivers. He figured this will get him a bunch of money before the OS even launches! Unfortunately, this pissed off a LOT of guys, who just flat didn't pay and didn't write the drivers.

Net result: Just about anything that requires a Driver, and isn't pre-installed, and is from before Vista was created, probably doesn't have and will never have a driver that is Vista capable, and a LOT of Plug-N-Play devices are STILL not Vista compatable.

With SP3 for XP, they finally fixed the 2GM RAM problem, so there's no point in getting the horrid memory-hog (just the OS eats up almost a full GIG of RAM to run thanks to all the flash involved).
