Ahem, but seriously- it's really good imo, best story I've written.
What I'm posting first is a Prologue of sorts.. It's the Legend that the rest of the story revolves around. So read, enjoy, and please comment!

The Legend of
The Five Gods
~Prologue~
— — — — — —

Long ago, the world was inhabited by several varieties of Humans and Bestia, animal-like people. These mortals all had one thing in common, they worshiped an Arcane dragon named Lord Tatsu. Throughout the land, all the people looked to him, but lived differently. To rule the people the way they wished to be, Tatsu created five elemental gods, each in the form of an animal.
— — —
To the northwest, the earth was made of flat, red stone. In this territory, the sky was often covered by storm clouds, for the god ruling it was a god of lightning. Neko, the white cat, was a fierce god. He strictly ruled over his people, and took everything seriously. If another god were to tell him he was too harsh on his people, he’d reply saying it made them stronger, like him.
To the south, the land was covered with water, for the swamps inhabitants were ruled by a god of water. Kuma, the brown bear, ruled his people with kindness and treated them as equals, if not better. If they were in need of anything, he would give them twice that. When he wasn’t helping his own people, he would occasionally go to the rest of the world and give them extra rain.
The land to the northeast was a scorching desert with a god of fire. This god, Kitsune, appeared in the form of a fox. He and his people enjoyed playing tricks on others. Kitsune found it the most fun when doing it to the other gods, preferably Neko. They were never very dangerous... just enough to get a good laugh.
Taka, the hawk and the god of wind, ruled the land to the southwest. His people lived in snowy mountains that touched the sky. Taka hardly visited his land, he preferred to be alone. His people still worshiped him, they said he gave them ‘freedom’.
The final land for mortals, to the southeast, was a thick forest. The forest was ruled over by a god of nature; Ookami, the black wolf. He would go out of his way to protect a member of his ‘pack,’ but if anyone were to offend him, he wouldn’t hold back his strength.
The center of the world was a giant volcano. The top of what was once a mountain, was ripped away millions of years ago, leaving the lava exposed. Floating above is the land that was removed, and atop this floating piece of earth is a giant white castle, where Lord Tatsu and the five gods would live.
— — —
The dragon would hardly have anything to do with the animal gods overseeing the world. He would often disguise himself as a type of Dragonkin so he could go down and see for himself how his world really was.
One time, when Tatsu went to Neko’s land, he saw a human girl. She had long black hair, that flowed in the wind. She was short for a human, but Tatsu didn’t mind. When he finaly spoke to her he looked into her large brown eyes and asked her name. ‘Elizabeth’ was her reply. She didn’t seem to mind that he wasn’t human, in fact she believed he was a common demon like the rest.
Tatsu began to visit her as often as he could. He got to know her to the point he was able to call her his friend. He learned of her fears and ambitions. She even had dreams of becoming a world leader, which he found quite humorous. He never told her what he really was. He didn’t like to lie to her, but her knowing he thought would make her uncomfortable to be around him. She seemed happy knowing him the way he was, which in turn made him happy as well. He didn’t want to risk that.
— — —
Back at the castle, Tatsu sighed as he watched Neko argue with the other gods, trying to prove he ruled his territory better than the rest. He taunted them, especially the fox. After an hour or so of them arguing, Tatsu threw them out and secretly went to see his human friend. The town was covered in black clouds and lightning. The people who lived there didn’t seem to notice or care. To them, this was normal. They would walk down the street even in the worst of it.
Elizabeth took Tatsu to the edge of town to watch the clouds. She loved the way it looked when a bolt of lightning hit the ground, as long as it wasn’t too close. But this time they saw something strange. The clouds began to glow red. A spot of fiery red in the pitch black sky. Flames exploded from the clouds and rained over the town. A large firebolt aimed toward Tatsu and Elizabeth smashed into the ground in front of them, and the impact sent them flying. Tatsu helped the girl up and looked to see what had happened. The fire god, Kitsune appeared before them, facing the town. Before Tatsu could say anything, Neko appeared in a bolt of lightning and began attacking the fox.
Tatsu ordered them to stop, but neither of them knew of his Dragonkin form, and ignored him completely. He sighed as he looked to Elizabeth. She still didn’t know who he really was, and he hadn’t planned to tell her any time soon. As they fought, Neko and Kitsune smashed into buildings, killing many citizens, and neither of them even realized what they were doing. Though they were once friends, they were blinded with rage. If they continued, there would be nothing left. Tatsu had no choice. He snarled as a faint white aura appeared around him.
Elizabeth stood in shock as she witnessed Tatsu transform into a large white dragon, with purple eyes, and a pale blue mane. The ruler of her world, and the elemental gods. Lord Tatsu. Once again, he ordered them to stop and this time they did immediately. The dragon let out a loud roar and it began to rain, extinguishing the fires. He then told the two to report to his castle and await his return.
— — —
Tatsu turned to face the girl he befriended. She stood trembling, staring at the giant beast before her. He lowered his head to her level and apologized for lying about who he was. The girl just smiled and began petting his furry snout. Tatsu slowly turned away and said he had to leave, but the girl grabbed him and begged not to be left alone.
No human had ever been to Lord Tatsu’s castle. It was created in the sky intentionally so they could not enter. The animal gods could cast a spell to teleport there, but never any mortals. The dragon was about to turn her down... but when he looked her in the eyes, he decided she couldn’t possibly do any harm. Elizabeth climbed onto Tatsu’s back and he flapped his wings, slowly lifting them off the ground, and flying toward his home in the sky.
Elizabeth stood next to Lord Tatsu’s throne and watched as he yelled at Neko and Kitsune. He finally dismissed them to their wings of the castle and began to speak with his guest. She mentioned the god’s fight that Tatsu had interrupted. If they had continued, who would win? If all five had been there, who would be the strongest? Tatsu often wondered this himself, but never felt the need to test it. The girl laughed and suggested a tournament. Tatsu looked at her and laughed, but then said ‘why not,’ thinking it might be fun.
— — —
The next day it was announced to the world. A tournament to find the strongest of the gods. The winner would be the new god for ‘Princess’ Elizabeth, and get ‘ultimate bragging rights,’ in the words of the Princess. This caught the interest of Neko and Kitsune especially. The mortals began to make bets on who the winner would be. Some would get into fights over who’s god was best. The world erupted in a five-way religious war. However, it wasn’t their fight that mattered, but the fight of the Five Gods.
The animal gods didn’t really want to fight. They had been friends since the beginning of their everlasting existence. But they were nothing but servants to their Lord Tatsu, and what he ordered is what would be so. They spent their last few days together, knowing it would be over the moment the battle began.
Tatsu returned to his castle the night before the battle. He had left Elizabeth at her house, to see her family. When he flew up to the gates, Neko was waiting for him. He thanked him for the opportunity to show his strength, but also asked him why? The two looked down to the world of the mortals. They were fighting each other, trying to prove their god was best. A meaningless fight, when the gods were created equal. Why would Tatsu start that?
He didn’t know. He had no idea. He just... wanted to make her happy. Before Neko could say any more, Tatsu began to walk away. He said he felt weak, and wanted to lie down. The Creator of the universe and all that is good. The dragon of limitless arcane power, feeling weak. This, above all things, caught Neko’s attention.
— — —
The day of the tournament, Elizabeth met with Tatsu to give him a gift. Tatsu had never received a gift before, he was surprised when she mentioned it. She said she made it from magic he taught her, with some techniques of her own. Tatsu was shocked. Mortals can’t use magic, it was impossible for her to have her own ‘technique’. He stuttered and asked her what she meant- what it was. She showed him a box. Just a plain, ordinary, box. The dragon opened the lid and inside was a silver, spiked collar...just his size.
Just looking at it, Tatsu could sense the arcanic power coming from the collar. He asked the girl what it was for, and she assured him it was just supposed to look nice. As he looked in her eyes, his head started pounding. He whimpered in pain as she put the collar around his neck.
Elizabeth grinned wickedly as Tatsu’s eyes faded to a dark gray color. She thanked him for the spells he taught her and informed him of what she truly was. A human born with vampiric powers, power to absorb pure magical essence from others. The more time she spends with the gods, the stronger she gets. Tatsu tried to attack the demon he thought he befriended, but couldn’t. He was no longer in control of his own body. It moved as she commanded. She walked toward the castle, and he followed, thinking to himself about all he had done wrong.
— — —
Meanwhile, the animal gods were preparing to fight. The arena was the land surrounding Lord Tatsu’s volcano, in the neutral territory of the world. Finally, Tatsu flew down with the Princess on his back. The crowd cheered. People had come from all around the world to see the battle. Humans and Demons alike, each hoping their god would come out on top. At the sound of Tatsu’s mighty roar the fight began.
The animal gods looked at one another. They were best friends. Though they each wanted to be called the best, they remembered their friendship. They didn’t want to fight, but they couldn’t go against any of their Lord Tatsu’s orders. They had been friends... but at the sound of the roar... it was over.
— — —
Ookami let out a howl as he ran up to Taka. He jumped into the air to attack, but was pulled down by Kuma, who tackled him in mid-air. Kuma’s magic power was specialized in strength and healing, while Ookami had defense and healing which gave the bear a slight advantage. But Ookami focused on his physical strength. The strength of a wolf. Taka hovered above as he watched the two attack and heal repeatedly, then flapped his wings, conjuring small tornados that ripped into the two beasts.
Ookami smashed his paws into the ground, sending boulders flying into the air and knocking Taka to the ground. The hawk scrambled to stand as Kuma charged into him, knocking him onto his back. Ookami ran toward them and pounced onto Kuma’s back, clawing into his flesh.
— — —
At the sound of Tatsu’s roar, Neko and Kitsune snuck away from the other three. Finally, a one-on-one fight between them, Kitsune snarled and began to glow red. He, Neko, and Taka all specialized in pure magic strength. Though they could attack physically as well, they couldn’t take the hits, and the fox knew this. Kitsune’s body was engulfed in flames as he charged Neko. The fire multiplied his attacks, and worked as a damage shield against Neko’s physical attacks.
The cat jumped toward the volcano, climbing the rocks to a small cliff. He summoned bolts of lightning down to the fox. The two attacked back and forth. Lightning vs. Fire. They continued until they couldn’t anymore. In the end, they stood face to face, panting. Each trying to scratch the other, back and forth.
— — —
Ookami bit into Kuma’s neck and Taka clawed into Ookami’s back. Kuma summoned an orb of water around Taka, leaving him floating, imprisoned in water. He then stood on his hind legs and smashed his paw into Ookami’s jaw. But the wolf counterattacked by slashing his claw through Kuma’s left eye. Blood dripped down Kuma’s face as he stumbled to a tree, trying to lean against it to hold his balance.
Neko hissed as he chased Kitsune around the volcano. He finally caught up to him and tackled him into a tree... and Kuma. Ookami howled as roots sprouted out of the ground and wrapped around the Neko. Roses formed on the roots and entangled the cat even more. Neko pondered the wolf’s attack. It seemed pointless since he could attack from a distance with his lightning magic. Then, the rose vines began to sprout thorns that stabbed into Neko’s flesh. The feline tried to pull himself free but the struggle made his wounds deeper and his snow white fur began to stain blood red.
Kitsune charged Taka, and unintentionally freed him from his watery prison. The hawk flapped his wings and sent Kitsune backwards onto Neko. The fox yelped in pain as he hit the thorns. He summoned fire to burn them, freeing Neko, but also hurting him even more.
— — —
The crowd cheered as the gods slaughtered each other. The all believed the gods were immortal, and they were right... in a way. No mortal can kill a god. But a fight between gods, though it had never been done before, could kill them. Tatsu knew this, and so did the ‘Princess’. She had planned on it. But the longer the fight lasts, the more time she has near them, meaning more magical essence absorbed. Tatsu could feel his power weakening, and Elizabeth was sure to remind him it was happening, knowing he couldn’t reply. He was dying inside, but his life couldn’t end. Though the crowd was cheering, inside they were questioning their dragon god. Losing all faith in him, which drained his power even more. It went so far that as his strength shrunk, his physical form did as well.
Lord Tatsu created the world, and everything in it, including the five gods and Elizabeth. He exists by their faith alone. If no one believes in him, he would fade away. And without it’s creator, the world would not exist.
— — —
The five animals all panted, exhausted. They each began to glow as they stood in a pentagon shape across the battlefield. In front of each god appeared a ball of energy. Pure essence of their element. At the same instant, each god shot a beam of energy forward. The five beams struck each other and exploded with arcane energy, backfiring at all of them. The battlefield was covered with a thick smoke and the crowd was silent. When it finally cleared, the world could see the result. Surrounding a crater formed by the impact of their final attacks, were five corpses. All that was left of the elemental gods.
The crowd changed from cheering to crying. And the one to blame was Lord Tatsu. They began to riot- yelling, crying, some of them even threw stones and other objects. Though he showed no emotion, Tatsu was mourning inside. Not only were the gods... his friends, dead... but all faith in him seemed to be lost.
— — —
Elizabeth was playing the ‘concerned human’ role but was happier than she had ever been. Tatsu had almost all his strength drained, and the gods were dead. She decided this wasn’t enough. She was still mortal and would still die. Suddenly, an idea popped into her head and she grinned wickedly.
She could use Tatsu’s power to reincarnate herself, so she would never truly die. But she couldn’t be alone. She’d need another god so she could keep renewing her power. She decided if she used the five animal gods, they would be too distracted by continuing their fight, carrying out Lord Tatsu’s final order, to stop her. The plan was perfect. Except one thing. Though she was human and could easily be reborn again, the elemental gods only appeared in an animal form. Their souls needed a body to transform into that solid, living form. A human body would be the easiest for them to posses. The five gods reborn sharing the bodies of five humans. All the magical knowledge Elizabeth had told her it would be easy, in theory.
But how often could she do this? She looked at Tatsu, his power was drained even more, and she didn’t want to waste her own, she intended on assuming the role of the new goddess of her world, now that Tatsu had no remaining faith. At the same time, she had to leave him with something, to keep him, and the universe, alive. With her and the five gods, he could probably reincarnate them every 200 years. The girl thought about it... 200 years was better than nothing, and the longer she waited the more time she lost. 300. 400. 500 years. She quickly decided to take it. Tatsu began to glow a faint white as the bodies of the five gods faded away.
Tatsu could see the souls of his friends... they began to fade away into darkness. Being transported to a world to preserve them until they could return. Sitting next to him, Elizabeth smirked, and all around him, the mortals sobbed. Tatsu began to growl as his collar began to glow white and crack. Princess Elizabeth shrieked as the collar exploded and Tatsu lashed forward, killing her in a single bite. Tatsu knew she would be back and would attempt to replace him again... but this at least gave him time.
— — —
Tatsu looked to his people. He didn’t know what to say, they had lost all faith in him. He didn’t even look like himself anymore. With all his power drained, he appeared to them as a Wyrm, a large snake with wings. His heavenly white scales had faded to an impure red. His mighty horns were gone completely. Tatsu called out, begging the mortals to listen to him, that he wasn’t at fault... but they just walked away.
The sky was covered with black clouds, all throughout the land. Lightning storms, Hurricanes, Firestorms, Tornados, and Earthquakes raged across the land for the following five days, and on the sixth day, Lord Tatsu’s volcano erupted, leaving no evidence of the battleground.
Tatsu watched this from his castle, helpless. The result of the gods’ final attack. He sighed as he felt the floating piece of land his castle stands upon fall downward, to cover the volcano once again. With no power to prevent it, the impact left the castle in ruins.
No matter how much he may have wanted to, Tatsu couldn’t die. He was still immortal, and so he had to live with the guilt of what he had done. After the storms finally ended, the world was renewed. It was no longer divided into five climates. There were now four seasons throughout a year, and the remaining humans and demons built cities together, rather than divided towns. Tatsu watched as after all his time trying to create the perfect world, it all seemed better without him.
— — —
For thousands of years the world changed repeatedly, and Tatsu witnessed it all. He saw the gods come and go, each time trying to prove who was the best.
For thousands of years they would posses the bodies of innocent humans and destroy friendships.
For thousands of years they would destroy thousands of homes and families, while carrying out the orders of their Lord.
For thousands of years, the one thing to remain the same would be the ruins of Lord Tatsu’s castles... and his haunting memories.

The Five Gods
Chapter: 1
— — — — — —
“Everyone knows the legend of the five gods! The story of the five elemental gods who ruled the world millions of years ago. The one who told them what to do was a dragon named Tatsu. One day, Tatsu decided to hold a tournament to find out who the strongest was. They fought for days, causing storms that destroyed the land. In the end, it was a five-way draw. It is said that the gods come back every five hundred years to finish the fight and find out, once and for all, who the strongest is.”
“And what about the dragon?” asked a little girl.
“Hehe, it is also said that his spirit lives within the castle ruins, waiting for a winner to return,” a mother replied, trying to sound scary, “and haunting any mortals who enter!”
“Aah!” cried the girl.
— — —
“Aah!” cried a girl, jumping up in her bed, “M— mom?”
She looked around her room and was pulled back into reality.
“It was a... dream?” she muttered, as her eyes finally reached the clock, “Ah! I’m late!”
The girl jumped out of bed and brushed her short brown hair as fast as she could while putting on her pink school uniform.
“Kira!” a boy’s voice called from outside her bedroom door, “Are you up? You’re gonna miss the bus!”
“Yeah!” she replied, fixing her blouse, “I’m leaving now, Keno!”
Kira lived in a small house in a forest with her older brother, Keno. When she was young, she lost her parents in a car accident. Only Kira and her brother survived. They were taken in by a Cat-Bestia; a human with catlike features, who had been a friend of the family. Only a few years after, Keno began to work to pay for himself and Kira, alone.
Kira ran outside and began down the street as fast as her feet would go. She arrived at a stop sign as a big yellow bus drove up. Kira panted softly as she climbed up the stairs and walked to her usual seat.
“Hey, Kira!” a clearly dyed red-headed boy called, popping his head out from the seat behind her.
“Hey, TJ,” she moaned, still half asleep.
“So, what’s up??!” he asked.
Kira ignored the boy until he began poking her repeatedly to get a response.
“Ugh,” she moaned, “How can you be so hyper in the morning?!”
“How can you be for hyper at night?” TJ grinned.
Kira stared at her friend for a moment before deciding to simply slap the boy for being an idiot.
“Let me enjoy the bus ride in peace, TJ,” she mumbled, leaning against her window and trying to sleep.
“Hmph, fine. Be that way!” the boy snapped, leaning back in his seat, mumbling something about her being grumpy.
— — —
After a short while, the two friends were at school and walked together to meet their other friends in the hallway outside the school’s library. They met there every morning before class.
“You’re late... again,” said a tall blonde girl, in a uniform matching Kira’s.
“Sorry, Petra,” Kira replied sarcastically.
“Hmm, that’s alright,” the girl said, winking one of her emerald eyes, “I’ll just blame TJ.”
The red-head glared back at her and the two girls laughed.
“Calm down,” a dark haired boy sitting on the floor said, “you take things so seriously, unless, of course, you’re the one laughing.”
“No I don’t, Robbie!” TJ said, annoyed.
“Yes, you do,” they all laughed together, all but one.
“Yeah, well... Korith doesn’t think so!” TJ said, pointing at the boy sitting next to Robbie.
He had dirty-blonde hair, and deep teal eyes that matched his school uniform. Korith slowly looked up, then just shook his head in silence. TJ sighed, and the bell for first period rang.
“Well,” Robbie grunted, standing up, “see you at lunch.”
Kira waved goodbye as her friends walked off... all but Korith. She smiled as he stood up and turned to her, wanting to say something, but he did first.
“...Bye...Kira,” he mumbled, turning to walk away.
The girl sighed in disappointment as she too, turned to walk to class.
— — —
Kira sat at her desk, using her bag as a pillow and trying, once again, to sleep. The second bell, that meant it was time for class to begin, rang and the teacher walked in. There weren’t many Bestia, animal-people, in the world anymore. The majority of the population were human, but it wasn’t too uncommon to encounter them. The Math teacher who instructed Kira’s homeroom class was a Cheetah Bestia named Laura Spots. Mrs. Spots was a favorite of all her students, especially the male ones. Despite this, Kira didn’t care much for her. Though, she didn’t particularly care for anyone who woke her when she wanted to do nothing but sleep.
“Listen up, class!” she announced, “We have a new student joining our school today! Her name is Liz Regalis and I expect you to treat her with respect and...” she went on.
Kira decided to look up to see who the ‘newbie’ was. It was a human girl with long black hair, brown eyes and was much shorter than the teacher. As Kira looked her over, her neck slowly began to burn. Her vision blurred and she felt dizzy. Kira buried her face in her arms and moaned in pain. Mrs. Spots looked over to Kira and noticed her rubbing her neck with one hand.
“Kira?” she asked, “what’s wrong?”
“My...neck...!” she muttered, trying to hold back tears, “It... it hurts... really bad!”
Mrs. Spots moved closer to examine her student. There was a bright red ring around Kira’s neck, and was hot to touch.
“Kira! What did you do to your neck?!” Mrs. Spots asked, frantically.
“Ugh, what are you talking about?!” Kira yelled.
As she turned to look the teacher in the eyes, Mrs. Spots gasped. Kira had bright golden eyes and a silver collar appeared around her neck. The Cheetah only blinked and it was all gone, but Kira’s pain only intensified. Mrs. Spots was hopelessly confused and half-assumed this was some form of prank.
“Just... go to the nurse,” the confused teacher managed to utter, “Have her figure out what’s wrong with you.”
— — —
Kira left the classroom, leaning against the wall to keep her balance. But the more she walked, the less pain she felt. By the time she reached the stairs, she felt fine. Thinking no one would believe her, she decided to skip the nurse and go hide in the bathroom until class was over.
The girl looked in the mirror, but the mark on her neck was gone. She saw nothing out of the ordinary. She tried, but couldn’t come up with any reasonable explanation for her pain. By the time the second period bell had rung, she’d convinced herself that she simply pulled a muscle, and went on with her day. By lunch, she had pretty much forgotten about it.
“So,” Petra said, tapping Kira who was trying to decide if her food was edible, “Me and Robbie have this new girl in our English class, second period...”
Kira looked up from her plate to acknowledge her friend.
“Yeah! She’s a total prep though! I can tell. Acts like she’s better than the rest of us and stuff,” she continued.
“Petra...” Robbie said, glaring at her.
All five were awkwardly silent for a while and ate their food, until finally, Kira spoke up.
“The new girl... ‘Liz,’” she mumbled, “She’s in my homeroom... But I didn’t really meet her... When I saw her... It was weird.”
Kira began to rub her neck at the thought of the pain. For the first time, Korith glanced over.
“... ...What’s...wrong?” he muttered quietly.
“On my god!” TJ yelled, pointing at the boy, “You can TALK!”
Petra and Robbie giggled. Not just because of Korith, but mostly because of TJ’s reaction. Finally, the bell to go back to class rang throughout the cafeteria, and the five friends, once again, went their separate ways.
— — —
“Kira! Wait up!” Korith yelled, running up to her.
Kira turned in shock that her silent friend actually spoke.
“You,” he panted, “you were talking about that girl before, remember? What do you mean, ‘it was weird’..? What happened?”
Again, her hand went to her neck, “Well... I guess... my neck started to hurt, but that’s it. Why? What’s wrong?”
“Well,” Korith muttered, “I think it was the same person... I saw her in the hallway... some girl... My... my neck...”
All across the school, the ‘late bell’ rang. The two looked to each other, then decided to hide underneath the stairway to skip class together.
“So, what do you think is going on, Korith?” Kira asked, making sure there was no one around to see them, “I mean, don’t you think it’s just a coincidence that we both had neck pains after seeing that girl? Petra and Robbie didn’t say anything about it!”
“I know it’s kinda... random,” he mumbled, “but... maybe we aren’t the only ones... maybe we just haven’t found anyone else...”
“I don’t know, Korith,” Kira said, raising her voice, “I mean, this is just too weird! I hate to tell you this, but I think you’re just making a big deal out of nothing, and it’s kinda freaking me out!”
The two jumped at the sound of a door slamming above them. As they heard footsteps running down the stairs, they began to feel the same burning pain as before. A girl’s voice was repeating the phrase ‘I’m late’. The closer her voice came, the pain became more intense. Kira yelped as she, once again, grabbed her neck in pain.
“It’s... her...” she muttered as she fell to her knees in pain.
Korith also grabbed his neck, but was able to hold himself upright by leaning against a wall. They both looked up and found Liz standing before them.
“What...” he moaned, “What are you?! What are you doing to us?!”
Kira let out a cry of pain as a silver spiked collar began to form around her neck. She quickly fell to one side and lied on the floor in pain.
“Heh,” the girl grinned, wickedly, “Still standing are we? Kneel.”
Korith grunted as a collar matching Kira’s began to appear around his neck and fell to his knees in pain.
“Ki...ra!!!” he cried, glancing to her as best he could.
Her body was glowing with a pale green aura. She was silent as the collar appeared completely, then without warning, began to crack. Korith’s eyes widened as he saw the collar explode, engulfing Kira in a blinding green light.
“The...Wolf,” Liz announced, grinning.
“What?!” Korith yelled, as his collar too, began to crack, “Kira??!”
Korith looked again to his friend, but she wasn't there. In her place was a beast. A demon. Two golden eyes stared angrily back at him. Korith tried to call her name again, but no words came out. Standing before him was a dire black wolf. Fangs bigger than his head, claws the size of his hands! The beast in its entirety was at least seven feet tall, if not taller! Korith's vision began to fade as his collar exploded, and a blinding white light surrounded him.
“And here comes... the Hawk,” the girl said to herself.
— — —
Out of the light flew a dire brown hawk. The wolf growled at the sight of it. He chased the bird through the door at the bottom of the staircase, ripping through the brick wall as if it were paper. Liz followed after them, but couldn’t keep up. She could only watch from afar as they fought.
The hawk turned to the wolf, hovering in place as it began to glow. He flapped his wings with great speed, conjuring five small tornados below him, all charging towards the wolf. The beast dodged the first two and slammed his paws into the ground as the rest raced closer. The impact shattered the stone and concrete, hurling it upwards into the air. The stone began to glow a green color as it shaped itself into a shield-of-stone, protecting the wolf from the raging wing. The shield stopped the next two tornados, but the last one slammed through, throwing the wolf backwards.
Liz looked up and saw the beast hurling toward her.
“Ookami?!” she cried. She sneered as he flew closer and called out, “Taka!”
The hawk sped to the girl and quickly grabbed her in his mighty talons, lifting her to the sky just as the wolf smashed into the ground where she had been.
The bird landed and walked away from the human girl. He slowly walked toward the rubble that buried his foe, ready to finish him off. The ground began to shake and the wolf lunged out of the rubble, grabbing the bird’s wing with his large fangs. As he tried to free his hind legs from the rubble, he fell to his belly. The hawk struggled to free himself, but the wolf would not release his grip.
The bird’s vision began to blur and he passed out. The black wolf dropped his prey and tried to stand once again. He let out as much of a victory howl as he possibly could before he too, passed out in a pool of blood.
Liz walked up to where the beasts had been.
“Ookami? Taka?” she called, looking closer.
In place of the gods were two humans; Kira and Korith, covered in blood. The short moment of calm was soon broken by the sound of sirens, coming closer and closer.

Not-that-good taunt, but a taunt nontheless:

"Slowly, his hand moved to the side of his head, but he felt something strange. He had the ears of an animal. The ears of a fox. His teeth had changed to fangs, and his fingernails to claws. He also had a long fox tail with the same orange-and-white markings as his hair. He had transformed into what looked like a Fox-Bestia."

Next chapter coming soon~ Very Happy

The Five Gods
Chapter: 2
— — — — — —

Kira awoke on a white bed, in a white room, with a white curtain dividing it.
“Where... am I?” she mumbled to herself.
“Kira??” yelled her brother, sitting next to her bed, “You’re awake! Are you alright?!”
She began looking around the room and recognized it as a hospital. The confused girl questioned her brother, asking why she was there. What happened to her.
“There was some explosion at your school. The side entrance was destroyed, don’t you remember?” Keno asked.
Kira thought back to the last thing she could remember. Being in the stairway when Liz appeared. And she remembered being with someone.
“K- Korith!” she cried, “What happened to him? Where is he?!”
“Well... you see...” Keno sighed, slowly opening the curtain dividing the room.
Kira’s eyes widened, “Korith!!!”
In a bed matching hers was Korith, asleep. His left arm was in a cast and he had bandages around his stomach. Kira’s wounds were nothing compared to what she saw. She only had a few cuts and bruises.
Kira stared in shock until her brother said, “The doctors say he’ll be fine, Kira. He’s just asleep. But they want you two to spend the night here,” he looked at his watch and signed, “and they’re probably going to kick me out any minute now...”
Kira looked away from her friend, holding back tears and said goodbye to her brother as a nurse came in to take him away.
— — —
“Ki...ra...” Korith barely moaned.
“Korith! You’re awake!” Kira cried, “Are you okay?!”
“Kira..?” he muttered, slowly turning to her, “What... Eh?! Kira! Do you remember what happened?! Anything at all?!”
Kira explained to Korith what her brother had said. She told him about the ‘explosion,’ and that the only thing she could remember before it was being with Liz under the school stairway.
“Oh, is that...all?” Korith asked, “Me... me too...”
His memory was fuzzy too, but he remembered the wolf. The dire beast. And he knew what he had to do to it.
— — —
The next day, Kira was sent home to recover. She moaned to herself, thinking about how boring it was to her; being alone on a Friday. Around noon, she decided to go for a walk, to take advantage of the fact that she lived in such a beautiful forest.
Kira walked down the footpath behind her house and into the woods. Everything was green, the flowers were still in bloom, and the path seemed as if it had been cleared only for her. She arrived at a small clearing with a boulder in the center for her to sit and look at the clouds; her favorite spot. But it wasn’t too long before Kira felt as if she were being watched.
“Who... who’s there?” she asked, but received silence, “Anyone..?”
This time, she heard a slight bark, followed by growling. Kira began to question if it was a dog. Out of the bushes emerged a large gray wolf, with a scar on it’s left cheek.
“A wolf?!” she cried, as it walked closer, “S- stay back!!!”
The wolf thingyed it’s head and sniffed the air as it came even closer.
“Get away!” she cried, waving her arms in the air to scare it away.
The wolf whimpered and turned to run off. Kira stood in shock that her attempt to scare the beast worked. She looked around to be sure there weren’t any others before running back to her house.
— — —
Kira spent the weekend around her house. Keno, being overly protective, never found out about the wolf incident, but still wanted her to rest and recover from her hospitalization. The whole time, she felt fine. No neck pains or anything. However, on Monday before going to the bus, Kira noticed her hair was much darker than usual.
“What’s going...on?” she asked herself, looking in the mirror, “Ugh, I’m gonna be late!”
Kira quickly brushed her odd-colored hair, ran out the door, and began down the street. She seemed to run faster than usual because, for the first time, she made it to the bus stop before the bus.
Climbing up the stairs onto the bus, and feeling overly-victorious, Kira announced to her friend, “I made it on time! Yay!”
“You may have made it on time today,” TJ taunted, “but you skipped last Friday, so you still lose. Where were you? Sick?”
“I was... well, I was sent to the hospital, and then-“ Kira said, but was cut off.
“THAT WAS YOU?!?!” TJ yelled, “You’re one of the people who were caught in that accident??! We all assumed you were just sick!!!”
Kira nodded, “Yeah... it was me... The doctors said there was an explosion, but they didn’t give any detail. They kept asking Korith and me if we knew anything... I don’t even remember any of it.”
“Korith?..” TJ sighed, “You were with him before it happened, I assume? ...Sucks.”
— — —
“So, uh. TJ,” Kira asked, trying to change the subject, “Did you dye your hair again? Wow, white tips? That’s... Original.”
“What? Ah,” he replied, pulling the tips of his bangs into sight, “Yeah! I got it done... the other day! What do you think??”
Kira shrugged. She wasn’t a big fan of his red-dyed hair to begin with, but this was just... odd. Not that she would ever tell him that.
“Looks... Original.” she said again.
Soon after, the bus pulled into the school’s bus lane. Her eyes widened as she looked at the building. The side stairway-entrance had a gaping hole where the door once was. The sidewalk and grassed area around it was torn up and blocked off with police tape. Kira was shocked that the school was opened at all with that kind of damage.
The shocked girl could only manage to utter one word, “Wow...”
— — —
The two went to meet their friends in the same hallways as always. This simple thing made Kira feel comfortable and forgot all about both the unusual shading of her hair and the damage of the school.
“Kira!!!” Petra cheered, “You’re here!”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Kira replied, “Hi everyone!”
Neither Korith nor Robbie replied. It was normal for Korith, but Robbie would always say something.
“They’re been acting weird lately, just ignore them, Kira,” Petra explained.
Robbie glared angrily at Petra, “Hi... Kira.”
“What’s wrong?” Kira asked.
Robbie sighed, “...Nothing.”
“Don’t be Emo, Robbie!” TJ yelled, poking him repeatedly.
Robbie finally laughed and said, “Okay, okay! Heheh. Now stop it!”
“Heh, try and stop me!” TJ taunted while he continued to poke him.
Robbie jumped up and began to chase TJ around. Petra sighed and called them immature, not that it ever affected their fun. Robbie caught TJ in a headlock, the boy squirmed, but couldn’t free himself.
“Now, beg for mercy!” Robbie laughed.
“Ngh...” TJ grunted, “Never!”
Robbie quickly loosened his grip, which sent TJ flying backwards a few feet. He let out a grunt after falling back onto his head. Sitting up, he moaned while rubbing the back of his head. Robbie looked over and his eyes widened. TJ stoop up and took a step closer, still rubbing his newly acquired bump on the head. Petra, Kira, and even Korith looked over and stared in shock. TJ just stood in confusion.
“You’re...” Petra muttered.
Slowly, TJ’s hand moved to the side of his head, but he felt something strange. He had the ears of an animal. The ears of a fox. His teeth had changed to fangs, and his fingernails to claws. He also had a long fox tail with the same orange-and-white markings as his hair. He had transformed into what looked like a Fox-Bestia.
“Kit...su...ne?” he muttered to himself, “...No!” The fox-boy turned and ran away as fast as he could.
“T-“ Kira stuttered, “TJ?!”
She began to go after him but stopped mid-step at the sound of a deep and powerful voice that echoed around her.
‘Kitsune!’ it yelled, ‘You won’t get away this time, you d**n fox!’
Suddenly, Kira began to run after the Bestia uncontrollably. She barely let out half a scream before losing all control. She could only watch as the ‘other being’ within her chased down her friend. And with use of her own body! Meanwhile, Petra, Robbie, and Korith just stared in shock at the situation.
“K... Kira?” Korith muttered to himself.
Petra just blinked and said, “Uh... Okay... Kira’s yelling at herself and TJ... I... I don’t even want to know... Too weird for me, I’m... going to class early, bye.”
— — —
Kira burst through the back door of the school and began sniffing the air. She felt her bones begin to shift and tried to scream in pain, but her voice wouldn’t come out. She began to grown black fur and the ears of an animal. The clothes she was wearing seemed to fade away as she transformed. The voice she had heard had now obtained it’s own body. Though she could not see it, Kira somehow knew what it was. She had the body of a dire black wolf.
“Come out, Kitsune!” the wolf yelled.
“Ookami?” said a voice from behind.
The wolf and Kira turned together to face a fox as large as them. Ookami growled and charged it as the fox charged back. Kitsune reared up onto it’s hind legs and scratched the wolf’s side, but Ookami turned and bit the fox’s ear.
Every attack weakened Kira more and more, but the wolf didn’t seem to be effected. She cried out to the beasts, begging them to stop, but received no response. Her voice echoed as if she was in another world, but she saw everything through the wolf’s eyes, felt his pain, and moved as he did.
“Enough! It’s time to end this!” Kitsune snarled.
Kitsune began to glow with an aura of flames that ignited around him. Grinning, he summoned a rain of fire down onto the wolf. Ookami and Kira cried out in pain as one. The beast began to shrink and transform into a human; Kira. She used all of her remaining strength to look up at the fox as it walked closer, and then passed out. Kitsune snarled and held his claw to her neck.
‘Kitsune, stop!!!’ TJ cried, being heard only in the fox’s mind, ‘Please!’
— — —
Kira awoke in a world of gray. A world of nothingness.
“Where... am I?” she muttered, stepping forward, “Aah!” she cried as she fell to her knees, “Blood?!
Kira looked at her hands, they were covered with blood. She had wounds all over her body. Suddenly, a loud howl echoed around her. Kira turned to and saw it. The golden eyes- the black fur- the white fangs- facing her.
“What the hell?!” she screamed, trying to crawl away.
‘Stay where you are, mortal,’ the wolf ordered.
Kira turned in shock and yelled, “You can talk?!”
‘What did you expect me to do, bark?’ he replied, ‘I am Ookami; the god of nature,’ he bowed as best he could, ‘You have been chosen as my partner in the coming war.’
“War?!” Kira yelled, “What war?!”
Ookami whimpered, ‘Could you stop yelling? You’re hurting my ears...’
“Oh... sorry,” she softly muttered.
‘The war,’ Ookami continued, ‘of the five gods. We must slay the Cat, Hawk, Bear... and Fox.’
Ookami walked closer to the girl and held his giant paw to her back. Kira began to glow as her pain disappeared.
‘Does that help, Kid?’ the wolf smiled.
“Thank you,” she replied, amazed.
Kira stood up and placed her hand on the beast’s snout to pet him, then quickly pulled it back when she noticed him staring at her. She apologized with both fear and embarrassment.
‘It’s alright,’ Ookami said calmly, ‘You don’t need to be afraid of me. I won’t harm you. I do, however, need your help to fight this battle.’
“Yeah... Why is there a war?” Kira asked, petting him again, “And who are those other animals?”
‘The war has been going on for thousands of years. We need to find the true winner, the one who gets to serve the princess for Tatsu. For some reason, we never find out who wins, so Tatsu has us try again every five hundred years. I told the other gods that clearly I was the winner, but they’re too stupid to listen,’ he paused for a moment, then looked back to Kira, ‘We need to defeat the other gods, they’re evil. I already found Kitsune, the fox, but he got away from me.’
“The...fox..?” Kira muttered, eyes widened.
‘Yes, will you help me?’ Ookami asked again.
“The fox... Kitsune... T- TJ!” she gasped, “I remember now! You tried to kill him! You tried to kill TJ!!!”
She quickly jumped away from Ookami and raised her fists as if she was going to fight him. The wolf just laughed, even through her orders for him to stop.
‘Kid,’ Ookami chuckled, ‘is this “TJ” a friend of yours or something?’
“Yes! He’s one of my best friends!” she cried, “I won’t let you hurt him!”
‘Is he really your friend, Kid? He attacked you first. I only fought back to protect you!” Ookami growled.
“D- Did he really?” Kira muttered in shock, lowering her fists, “I... I remember chasing him... and a fox attacking me, but... it’s all fuzzy.”
‘That’s because I was in control of your body at the time, you’ll get used to that. But listen, Kid, I need you to help me. I can’t do this by myself,’ Ookami sighed, ‘Please Kid, help me out here.’
“If... TJ is really that way... If he really tried to... to kill me then... I’ll help you, Ookami...” she whimpered, thinking about her friend attacking her, “I’ll... try.”
‘What’s your name, Kid?’ Ookami asked at last.
“Kira,” she muttered.
‘Thank you, Kira,’ the wolf smiled, ‘I can feel it, Kid! Together, you and I will end this war! We will have a winner at last, and it will be us!’

The Five Gods
Chapter: 3
— — — — — —

Kira awoke where she had passed out; she was all alone behind the school. Her wounds were completely healed and she was in control of her own body again. She looked around, calling out Ookami’s name.
‘I’m right here, Kid,’ he said, warmly. His voice echoed around her, ‘You can’t see me, but my spirit is living within you. I can see through your eyes and feel your pain. I can also bring my true form to this world through you. And I want you to know; I can and will protect you with the power of nature.’
“That’s amazing,” Kira said in awe, walking towards the school, “Wait a minute, Ookami! Did anyone see you?! I mean, we were just fighting a giant fox! I can’t just walk in there like nothing happened!”
‘Relax,’ Ookami chuckled, ‘I’m a GOD remember? Over the years, the other four and I have figured out ways to get past that. If we’re in a public place, we will make ourselves invisible to mortals… Though our fights might still cause problems if we were to destroy anything.’
With a smile of comfort, Kira walked into the school. Instantly, the bell for first period rang. The girl continued on her way, amazed that the fight only lasted about ten minutes.

— — — — — —

Kira ran to her first period classroom while Ookami attempted to explain the war to her. He desperately tried to justify killing TJ, but Kira avoided the topic.
“Hello there, Kira,” a cold voice called from behind.
Kira quickly turned to see Liz standing before her. Surprisingly, she had no neck pains whatsoever, but that somehow made Kira even more uncomfortable.
‘Odd…’ Ookami muttered, ‘She looks like…’
Kira ignored the voice in her head, “Uh, Hi… Liz, was it?”
Liz smiled warmly, pleased that Kira remembered her name. She warned Kira to hurry to class, and the two girls walked into the room together. Kira sat in her usual seat, while Liz strutted to the one next to her.
“Ooh, I can see MUCH better from here! You don’t mind, do you?” she grinned.
‘I swear…’ Ookami mumbled.
“Yeah, she’s a little weird,” Kira whispered.
‘Huh? No, I mean… Is she really… N- never mind,’ he sighed, ‘Forget I said anything. It’s fine.’

— — — — — —

Over time, Kira began to zone out. She was deep in thought, remembering what Ookami had asked of her. How could she kill TJ? Did he really try to kill her? Who did the other gods possess? Could she kill any of THEM? Would she even be strong enough to protect herself from them? Thousands of questions raced through her mind, but they all screeched to a halt with one shocking thought. Could she really trust Ookami?
This elemental god living within her came out of nowhere and was trying to control her life. Hell, he already demonstrated his ability to control her body. And now he was controlling her mind as well! Who was this demon who called himself ‘The Wolf God’ known only in legend?!
“My…head hurts,” she moaned.
‘You okay, Kid..?’ Ookami asked, with a sincere tone.
She nodded slightly, trying her best to hold back a tear as her mind raced back to the thought of her friend’s death- and again at the thought of her own death at his hands.
‘Don’t stress yourself too much, Kid,’ he said calmly, ‘you’ll get used to this stuff soon enough. But there will be some… changes in your life you’ll have to overcome. A lot of… changes.’ The wolf’s voice sharpened on the last part in particular.
“Yeah, well I think I’ve dealt with enough ‘changes’ already, Ookami..!” she muttered, just loud enough for the Teacher’s catlike ears to hear.
With a sigh, Mrs. Spots scolded Kira. For her own entertainment and that of the class, she questioned Kira’s ability to ignore the lecture while conversing with herself. The students began to chuckle, and Kira’s face turned red. Ookami growled and attempted to reassure the girl, but it didn’t mean much to her. Soon enough, the burning sensation in her neck returned and Kira was moaning in pain. She questioned Ookami, asking why it was happening again.
‘The wolf in you is being released, Kira,’ Ookami grinned.
“Wolf? Released?!” she cried.
Instantly, the pain surrounded her. It gripped her head more tightly than anywhere else. The pressure was too much to take and the girl fled the classroom, leaving both the students and Mrs. Spots confused and speechless.
“H- Hey!” the Cheetah cried, “Get back here, Kira!”
She began after her but was stopped when Liz arose from her seat.
“Teacher, I can get her if you’d like. We’re friends. I think I can calm her down. She’s been… Upset recently,” Liz explained.
Remembering she had the rest of the students to look after, the Bestia agreed. Liz politely thanked Mrs. Spots and walked calmly out into the hallway.

— — — — — —

Kira ran as fast as she could. She didn’t waste time looking back. She darted into the girl’s bathroom, the only place she could think of to hide. Panting heavily, her eye caught a glimpse of the mirror. She froze, staring.
‘Well, look at that,’ Ookami chuckled, ‘you look good, Kid!’
Kira stared at the figure in the mirror. It wasn’t real, she told herself. She lifted her hand to the top of her own head. The reflection imitated this action. The frightened girl gripped her trembling hand around the mutation upon her head. They were real.
“Wolf… ears..!” she muttered.
‘Your eyes are gold too,’ Ookami added, pleased, ‘you look really good, Kira!’
“I look like a Bestia!” she cried, noticing she also had a tail and slight fangs.
“A Bestia?” a voice smirked from behind, “Come now, Kira, you’re much more than that.”
Kira fell over in shock at the sound of Liz’s voice. The girl giggled and reached out a hand to help her up, but Kira just questioned her. She didn’t seem shocked at all. Was she another human possessed by a god? Did this mean they had to fight now?
“Ookami,” Liz called, softly, “Come out, Ookami. It’s me, you know. It’s Elizabeth.”
Instantly, Ookami gained control, and Kira’s body transformed into his own. He lowered his head all the way to the floor and closed his eyes.
“Princess,” he said softly, “it is you. I wasn’t sure before, but you’re really here.”
The girl smiled and began to pet Ookami. Kira tried to move, but of course couldn’t. She felt a warm sensation flow throughout her as Liz continued petting the wolf. It was odd to her, but still felt natural.
‘Ookami?’ Kira cried, ‘What’s going on?’
He ignored her.
“Ookami, Liz said warmly, “I… want to wish you luck in your battle. You’ve been fighting strong all these years. Tatsu and I are impressed by your great effort.”
“Thank you, Princess,” Ookami replied, looking her in the eyes for the first time, “But as I’ve said before, you should refer to him as Lord Tatsu. No matter how close you two may be.”
“Yes, you’re right,” Liz laughed, “Sorry.” She then gave a much more serious look, “The other gods… They’re here… At this school. I’ve spoken to both Kuma and Kitsune, and I’ve seen Taka with you.”
“Yes, when I first awoke,” he let out a slight growl, “I would have beaten him then and there, but my full strength hasn’t returned yet.”
“And it’s wont until…” Liz interrupted, “Well… You know how this works by now. This fight wasn’t meant to be quick.”
Liz explained that she hadn’t been able to locate the lightning god; Neko. He was probably reincarnated somewhere else in the world and the fact that the other four were all here was just luck. She ensured that there would be a winner and hinted that she was rooting for him.
“That’s right,” Ookami grinned, “I will be the winner! I will end this battle!”
Ookami began to glow a faint green. With a look of confusion on his face, the wolf transformed back into Kira’s Bestia-like form.
‘What the-?!’ he growled, ‘How did you-?!’
She ignored him.
Liz stared in shock, “How did you do that?”
“Uh, the same way he does, I guess,” she shrugged.
“That’s unusual,” Liz muttered, pondering what had just happened, “Humans shouldn’t be able to retake control like that… You must be… strong.”
Kira frantically explained to Liz about her friendship with TJ. She still couldn’t imagine having to fight him. On her knees, Kira begged for a way to avoid it. Ookami had called this girl a Princess. Was she really someone who could help? Kira prayed that she could, but Liz began to smirk in response to Kira’s tears.
“Kira,” Liz grinned, “how do you know he won’t attack you? Maybe he’s just pretending to be your friend. Foxes can be real tricksters, you never know.”
Kira froze, speechless. She didn’t even know how to react to this. Was Ookami really telling the truth all this time? A warm smile appeared across the Princess’ face.
“Ookami,” she called calmly, “Good luck, Ookami. I’ll be watching.”
‘Thank you, Princess,’ Ookami replied, knowing he couldn’t be heard, ‘Kira, we should get out of here.’

— — — — — —

Ashamed of her wolf-like features, Kira fled in secret. She avoided popular sections of the school and eventually made it to the back door. The wolf god explained that she was not a Wolf Bestia, but a Lycanthrope- one who changes forms between Human and Animal. She just had to learn to control it as best she could, which was not an easy thing, to do he warned. But Kira was determined. She would get her normal life back no matter what it took. She wasn’t going to give up hope- though the fact that she was hiding in the bushes behind her own school wasn’t too reassuring.
She glanced down through the row of shrubbery, admiring the plants, trying to ignore the fact that she had animal ears. Through the green, she noticed a patch of orange that seemed out of place to her. Kira crawled closer to examine it, but then it moved.
“Eh? Who’s there?!” cried a familiar voice.
Ookami warned Kira to not do anything stupid, but she ignored him again. The girl called out TJ’s name in both fear and joy. He too had the body of a Bestia; in his case, a Fox. Despite Ookami’s warning, Kira showed herself to the boy. She verified that it was truly her, but TJ’s reaction wasn’t what she had hoped it would be. A look of fear and anger appeared across his face. He began yelling things that made no sense to Kira. He yelled what seemed like half an argument that he didn’t seem to be winning.
“Ookami? What? Kill?!” he cried, “Why would I- No! Stop it, Kitsune!”
Kira took a few steps back, questioning TJ. The whole time, Ookami tried to convince Kira to let him fight, or he would forcefully take her body to do it himself.
“Ki… ra!” TJ muttered, grabbing his head in pain, “Kira! RUN!!!

The Five Gods: Chapter Four
By: Jae
— — — — — —

‘Ookami!’
“Ookami?”

‘I’m going to beat you this time, Ookami!’
“What?”

‘Kill her TJ! Kill her or I will!’
“Kill? Why would I-“

‘She’s NOT your friend!!! Kill her before she transforms!’
“No!”

‘Fine then, I’ll do it!’
“Stop it Kitsune! Aah! Ki…Ra…! Kira! RUN!!!”

— — —

____ TJ screamed in pain as he was engulfed in an orange light. Kira froze, staring at her friend, as he transformed. The fox snarled as Kira stepped closer.
____ “TJ?” she asked, “It’s still you… R- Right..?”
____ “My name is Kitsune, mortal! Now where is Ookami?!” the fox snarled, “Or is he too scared to fight me? He expects a Lycanthrope to fight a God’s battle?!” Kitsune let out a loud laugh.
____ “That voice!” Kira growled, “You’re the one who attacked me before! It wasn’t TJ at all, it was you!!!”
____ “Of course it was me! This is my battle! He’s a good partner, but not exactly the best fighting spirit when it comes to you. He still surrendered his body to me, though. And when his paws become mine, I will end this war! Together, we will kill you and the other gods. Then I can finally go home!” Kitsune smirked, “All thanks to your little friend.”
____ Enraged, Kira charged the fox with her own strength. She extended her arm to use her new Bestia claws against her foe; but the God easily dodged and let out a loud guffaw when she tripped. Ookami tried desperately to take over Kira’s body, but she did all she could to stop him.
____ ‘Kira! Let me take over, damn it! You’ll get hurt!’ the wolf cried.
____ Kitsune grinned and summoned nine blue embers that circled him. Kira’s eyes widened as the flames shot at her and she was trapped within a cylinder of fire.
____ “Ookami..!” Kira whimpered, “H- Help… Me..!”
____ Seconds later, Ookami smashed his paws to the ground, crafting a shield of stone from the pieces of earth around him. The shield surrounded Ookami, protecting him from the flames. A loud howl was heard for miles as he pushed the stones outward through the flames, extinguishing them. The wolf charged the fox and scratched its face as Kira had attempted to. She felt the satisfaction of Kitsune’s blood on her claws, as did he.
____ “Really, Kitsune,” the wolf grinned, “Trying to act strong in front of a Lycanthrope? We all know how weak you really are!”
____ “Ookami, so nice of you to show up,” Kitsune smirked, “Now get ready to die.”
____ The wolf jumped back and growled as Kitsune began to glow once again. Nine blue embers shot at Ookami, but he jumped high into the air above his foe.
____ “You’re still too slow,” Ookami grinned, as he fell down toward the clueless fox.
____ Kitsune barely noticed the wolf before he smashed down onto the fox. Ookami drilled his claws into Kitsune’s flesh.
____ “Heh, I take it back, Kitsune! You’re not slow! You’re pretty quick; quick to lose!” Ookami laughed, biting into his neck.
____ Kitsune gasped for breath, desperately trying to get Ookami off his back. He managed to fall to one side, slamming the wolf into the ground, but he still didn’t let go. Blood gushed from Kitsune’s neck as his vision blurred.
____ ‘Ookami! Please stop! You can’t kill him, please!’ Kira begged.
____ She could taste her friend’s blood. She felt her claws digging into his back. Visions of TJ’s dead body flashed through her mind.
____ ‘Please…’ she muttered, ‘Ookami… p- please stop…!’
____ “He tried to kill you, Kira!” the wolf finally yelled, accidently releasing his grip on the fox.
____ ‘I don’t care!’ she cried, attempting to take over again.
____ The wolf started to glow and transform, “Kira! No! Stop it, you idiot!” his words faded away and Kira regained her human body.
____ Kira wrapped her arms around Kitsune’s bloody neck and sobbed uncontrollably, crying TJ’s name. The beast coughed and gasped for breath. The wounds in his neck were deep and blood was still gushing out.
____ “Wh- why did you stop him?” Kitsune muttered, trying to control his breathing, “You’re supposed to… to kill me… and the others..! Tatsu… and the Princess… they decided your fate..!”
____ “I don’t care!” she sobbed, “I don’t want to kill anyone!” She looked him in the eyes, “I don’t want anyone to die!”
____ The fox looked faint before transforming into TJ’s Human form. He quickly grabbed his throat and began gasping for breath. He managed to cough an apology to his friend, but she begged him not to talk. He gave her a look of sincerity before hacking up more blood.
____ “Ookami! Can you heal him? You said you could heal, right?!” she asked, frantically.
____ ‘Are you mad?! Why would I heal him?! He’s the enemy!’ Ookami growled.
____ “Ookami..!” she cried, “Please! Save him, please! You have to… I’ll do anything!”
____ ‘I refuse,’ he sighed, ‘but… I can’t stop you from healing him, can I?’ Kira froze in shock. ‘Concentrate, Kira. Concentrate on the power of earth within you; grasp it and control it. Command it to heal him, and it will obey…’ the wolf sighed, ‘…And if he hurts you, Kid… I promise you now; he won’t get another chance to heal.’
____ Kira closed her eyes and began to glow a faint green color. She instinctively placed her hands on TJ’s wound. He let out a cry of pain and looked at her questionably. The deep wound became shallower until it was nothing but a bloody scar. The boy let out three hacking coughs to clear the blood from his lungs.
____ “How did you-” he coughed, “O- Ookami? What?” he muttered, clearly talking to Kitsune, A faint smile grew upon his face, “Kira… thank you.”

____ A frantic gym teacher ran out of the building and began yelling at TJ and Kira.
____ “What are you two doing out here?!” he yelled, “TJ! What the hell did you do this time, punk?!”
____ “Coach Berger?” TJ cried, “What are you talking about?! I didn’t do anything!”
____ Kira recognized that name; Coach Gilbert Berger was TJ’s track, baseball and basketball coach. If anything went wrong, he blamed TJ; though 80% of the time it was his fault. Even though he was human, Coach Berger catered to Bestia on his teams, which made it even harder for TJ to prove himself.
____ “A BOMB went off, TJ, and you and you little girlfriend there are the only ones out here! What the hell happened?! You’re bleeding!”
____ TJ denied knowing anything and Kira impulsively agreed; even if they had told the truth, who’d believe them? Coach Berger informed them that the school was under lock-down and no one was allowed outside until the principal confirmed that it was safe. He escorted them to the nurse and then went to look for more students.

— — —

____ It took longer to see the nurse than it did for her to realize the two were fine. Ookami’s healing powers were far more than enough. She had TJ clean the blood off his neck and back, and helped Kira get the stains off her blouse. TJ had to leave his uniform jacket there to be cleaned, but in no time she’d sent them off to lunch.
____ “Perfect timing,” Kira said, trying to sound cheerful.
____ TJ stopped at the cafeteria doors, “Kira… maybe I shouldn’t go… the others… they saw…”
____ “TJ! They’re your friends! They’ll accept you no matter what! Kind of like… how you still accept me… as the wolf…” she put her hand on his shoulder, “Come on…”
____ They got their food and walked to the table where Petra, Robbie, and Korith were sitting. All three were staring at TJ. Silently judging him, unable to bring themselves to say anything.
____ “So, TJ,” Petra finally said, “I see you fixed your head.” He glared angrily. “I thought you didn’t like Bestia,” she continued, “Now you’re tryin’ to look like one or something?? …Racist.”
____ “It’s my DAD who doesn’t like them,” he impulsively replied, then just silently picked at his food.
____ The rest of lunch was quiet. TJ was always the loud one. Without him talking, it wasn’t the same. Petra and Robbie glanced at each other every so often, but never spoke. In time, the bell rang and the five friends went their separate ways.

____ "K- Kira..." Korith muttered. He'd followed her to her science class, "Are you okay..?"
____ "Korith? What are you doing here, you're gonna be late to class!" she said.
____ "Don't worry about that," he said, annoyed that she changed the subject, "I heard there was another... 'explosion'... Are you really okay??"
____ "Yeah, I'm fine!" she replied, "Why? Why wouldn't I be?!"
____ "I know you were there, Kira," he sighed, "...and I know you weren't alone... You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to... but... If you're scared... Or if you're in danger... I'll... protect you."
____ This scared Kira more than it comforted her. Did Korith see her? He couldn't have! Ookami said mortals couldn't see them when they fought! Kira tried to think of a reply, but Ookami interrupted her thoughts.
____ 'Hah! HIM protect YOU?! That's great,' he laughed, 'this kid's hilarious, Kira!'
____ "Korith," she said, trying to ignore Ookami, "I'm fine, can't you see? Don't worry about me! Now hurry or you're gonna be late to class..."
____ "...Yeah," he muttered in his normal, quiet tone, "Sorry, Kira. ...Bye." He walked away silently, making only one sad glance back.

____ Kira never cared much for her Science teacher; though she never cared much for Science either. Mr. Remi Blandin was a Rat-Bestia who was disliked by most of his students. He was strict and didn’t seem to enjoy his job at all.
____ “Sit down, Kira!” he yelled, when she’d just entered the room.
____ Barely five minutes later, the lights flickered and went out. The students instantly started screaming; partially out of fear, but mostly to irritate Mr. Blandin. The Rat frantically tried to take control of his class, as he went to the windows to open the blinds; it was sunny out.
____ “Stay in your seats, Students,” the teacher yelled, “There’s no storm; I’m sure they’ll fix this momentarily.”
____ Kira glanced out the window she was sitting next to. Her class was on the third floor, and she never really liked heights. She shivered and turned the other way.
____ ‘Kira,’ Ookami said, ‘We have to go.’
____ “What?” she whispered.
____ ‘Neko’s here. A fight is starting right now,’ he explained, ‘it’s the cat and…’ the wolf sighed, ‘and the fox.’
____ Immediately her eyes turned to the window. He was right; she saw Kitsune and Neko facing each other on the ground, probably only visible to her. They seemed to be talking, and it didn’t seem to be going well.
____ ‘If you don’t want me to fight him, then I won’t… yet,’ he continued, ‘but I’m going to rip that damn cat to shreds, I swear!’
