Hardly anyone seems to read the stickies and the guidelines when they sign up it seems.

Few people read emails anymore, either. Because I do mass email and post explaining what to do (look at the dates on this forum) before I wipe accounts.

Part of why I changed things.

I've been on all kinds of boards, where there were all manner of discussion, not to mention dubious behavior, and I've never seen such ridiculous and complicated security for a message board for a comic.

And for a comic that seems abandoned, too. Seriously, none of this reflects well.

All I have to say is that the comic is not "abandoned". Those of us that have been around for a while know what the score is. As for the "rediculous and complicated security", it is keeping out the moron spammers as well as people that don't take the time to read how to sign up and activate their accounts. It may be as you described about the security procedures in your eyes, but the rest of us are glad for them.

Just to add, I've been here since 2006 when we used to be on the old EZBoards.

If I also recall, the other forums are secure too, aren't they? We have a lot of people who are posting copyright stories/artwork, and the security helps protect that copyright.

Right, Vex?

Traxan, I so disagree with you on every issue, that I am wondering why I bother to respond. I have a forum that was hacked THREE times before I found a host that could provide me with the level of security I needed. Then I had spammers and porn marketers and space hogs and clowns registering and posting their trash, scaring off the more worthy registrants. I was beside myself. Even when I made it so that I was the only one who could okay an applicant, they somehow circumvented the security and broke in. Finally, a wonderful internet wizard and friend offered me the same solution he had done for another friend's website. It worked. And I haven't had a problem since. You talk about security - my site has security. Every single bit of it necessary.

So, until you have a site that has been hacked (and many precious files lost in the process), spent $400 to have it restored, only to have it invaded by the idiots, perverts, and scroungers of the world...you have nothing to say that I want to hear.

WTF Comics is a site that is precious to me. It holds many wonderful memories and many wonderful people that I enjoy socializing with. The comics are far from dead...and even if they were, there is an archives chock-full of the best comics relating to EQ (IMO) on the internet.

And so your first post is to slam and ridicule the Webmistress and the Webcomic Artist? Yea... that doesn't reflect very well either.

Seriously, it's not that complicated. About the only things that should have a problem with the registration would be spambots and other automated nonsense because of the human factor involved. If you are unable to comprehend the steps necessary to be able to join our community... well, that doesn't reflect very well either.

And yes, ALL boards, other than this one, are restricted access. We do not prefer to have web-spiders browsing our forums. If you decline to join, that's your decision. If you don't, then why would you want or need to see anything IN the forums?

All the world is a mirror. If everything reflects poorly, perhaps the problem isn't the world, but the individual casting the reflection.
